CERTIFIED YOGA INSTRUCTORS

David Aukamp is the director of Springs Yoga Studio and co-founder with his wife RuthAnn.  Having come from a healthcare background David uses his knowledge and understanding of the human body to help the student enhance movement and function.  He brings a calm demeanor to class and encourages the student to pursue the essence of an inner yoga practice linking breath and postures.  David has studied with Jonny and Bryan Kest, David Swenson, John Friend, Thom and Beryl Bender Birch, Baron Baptiste, and many others.  Participating in workshops at least four times a year David is continually working on deepening his understanding of yoga for himself and his students.  David received his doctorate in Chiropractic in June 1994 and is a certified Hatha Yoga Teacher.

 

RuthAnn Martin - RuthAnn's teaching style combines movement and yoga therapeutics with in- depth anatomy and muscle physiology to produce a challenging yet fun-filled class.  She follows the teachings of BKS Iyengar and K. Pattabhi Jois and has studied with David Swenson, Bryan Kest, John Friend, Baron Baptiste, and Ramanand Patel and many others.  She is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and is currently pursuing her Anusara Yoga teacher certification. She brings a passionate and lively teaching style to her class.  RuthAnn is a certified neuromuscular therapist, certified Zen Body Therapist, and has been the owner director of Natural Healthworks since 1992.

 

 

Jacqueline Frederick’s teaching is strongly influenced and inspired by the Anusara Yoga tradition, as founded by John Friend. She has been studying and practicing Yoga for over 4 years with an emphasis on Anusara.

She is a certified yoga instructor and a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance, a governing body of Hatha yoga teachers. She has studied under many renowned Anusara teachers including John Friend, Mitchel Bleier, and Sianna Sherman. She most recently completed a weeklong teacher training with John Friend, the founder of Anusara Yoga, in May of 2004. She continues to  develop her own practice and her teaching by attending workshops and training intensives several times a year.

 

Theresa Barnett has been practicing Hatha Yoga since the mid 1980s and serving as a teacher since 1994. She is a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher and yoga therapist. Theresa helps students access the innate wisdom and intelligence of the body through movement and awareness cultivated from her own practice. She assists her students in experiencing greater strength, spaciousness and trust of their own bodies through the practice of “movement as meditation.” She has studied with Erich Schiffmann, Rodney Yee, John Friend, and continues to be in apprenticeship with Diane Long. Theresa utilizes the body’s own healing properties as a certified Neuro-Muscular therapist and Cranio-Sacral therapist as well. Her classes cultivate wellness of the body and guide her student’s focus naturally toward their own inner landscapes for a sense of wholeness.

 

Andrea " Alex" Dockery is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) in Atlanta, Georgia who has studied with Bryan and Johnny Kest, David and Doug Swensen, Baron Baptiste, David Life, and John Friend.  She brings a unique perspective and style to the practice of yoga.  As a guest instructor at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico, Alex taught classes in yoga, restorative yoga, pilates, strength & flexibility, abs & back, legs & glutes, fitball,  and men's circuit weight training.  In her yoga and fitness training, Alex draws upon her background in gymnastics and dancing and her studies of kinesiology, body mechanics, and anatomy.  Her classes are taught with a thoughtful, hands-on approach.

 

Leslie Dean has been exploring and sharing yoga for over 10 years.  She has had the privilege to study yoga and yoga philosophy with Richard Freeman, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Tias Little, John Friend and many many other gifted teachers.  Although she continues to delve in many forms of yoga, her practice and teaching are deeply rooted in the Ashtanga tradition.  Leslie’s love and devotion for this ancient form are easily conveyed through her style of teaching.  She emphasizes the breath, bandhas, drishti and alignment.  Her approach is precise, challenging, fun and from the Heart!  When she’s not teaching yoga, you may find her on the mat next to yours or out being walked by her three dogs.

 

Amber Barry practices and teaches yoga with the deepest gratitude for the tradition.  She shares her enthusiasm for the yogic arts with her students, and teaches with great warmth and compassion. Amber has a unique talent for engaging students of all levels to deepen their practice through asana, pranayama and mindfulness.  Her greatest guidance is to “practice with awareness” and “honor your body”.  She earned her yoga teacher certification through Atlanta Yoga Fellowship, and has completed John Friend’s Level I Anusara Immersion.  She has also studied with Tias Little, Bryan Kest, and Doug Keller.  Amber holds a B.S in Marketing from the University of Virginia, and has been teaching in the Atlanta area since 2001.

 

Marty Erwin was introduced to yoga through the Ashtanga practice in 1999. Amazed at the benefits of a regular yoga practice, Marty took the opportunity to deepen his practice by attending a month long Ashtanga teacher training at
It's Yoga of San Francisco in 2000. After returning to Chattanooga, Marty began teaching yoga part-time. A year later, he left his position as a Eighth grade English teacher to devote himself to the study and teaching of yoga. Marty has continued his studies with numerous local and national
teachers, as well as completing additional teacher trainings: a 50 hour 5 day Vinyassa teacher training with Stephanie Keach of Asheville Yoga, and a 200 hour Kripalu Yoga teacher training with Deva Parnell of Discovery Yoga in St. Augustine. Marty encourages students to allow their practice to be an exploration without ambition, cultivating contentment with each breath.

 

Lindy Kesler originates from South Africa where she trained as a ballet dancer and later as a teacher. After spending a year at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Lindy arrived in Atlanta where she has been teaching yoga full-time since 1998.  She is certified in Kripalu Yoga and has also studied Iyengar Yoga specifically for therapeutics and pre-natal.  She has a keen interest in helping those with back pain, fusions, scoliosis and I especially loves teaching those who are just starting out in yoga.

 

Lori Sugarman, a Greensboro, N.C. native, has lived in metro Atlanta since 1987raising 3 children (now teenagers) with her husband, Barry.  In 1994, Lori started a preschool program in Marietta that today serves about 100 children.  She has been active starting community programs, including children's drama, youth creative writing clubs, a community youth chorus, and at the other age spectrum, director and developer of a senior center.  In 2006 she received her training from Helen Garabedian, creator of Itsy Bitsy Yoga.  Lori’s mommy and me classes will give parents active tools using yoga poses that encourages playfulness, touch, movement and bonding with babies as well as providing a nurturing environment through contact with other moms and children.  Please contact Lori to register at      Ph. 678.778.0707 or email itsybitsyoga@gmail.com
